Whenever there are losers, there are cheaters. It's like that in casinos too. Since casino games are built to make the house win, some players are tempted to resort to cheating.

Blackjack is a card game played in casinos. The game pits a player against the house, personified by the dealer. In today's computer age, it is impossible for players to cheat when playing blackjack online. But in live casinos it is still possible though at great risk.

Crime never pays. It's a ad idea to cheat in casinos so don't try it. This page describes a few cheats and also card counting, but while the latter is okay the former is not. Remember if you are caught cheating, the BEST thing that can happen to you is get banned by the casino. A lot worse can happen!

Kinds of Blackjack Cheating

In blackjack, a player's cards are always dealt face up; but the dealer keeps one of his or her cards face down. Now if you knew the dealer's hole (hidden) card, it would be very advantageous to you. You would know whether to hit, stand or whatever.

To cheat, some players mark the cards in some way as they are dealt to them. Typically they will use their fingernails to mark the cards in different ways. For instance, a king gets a mark on the upper left, a queen on the lower left and so on. Next time they are dealt as hole cards, you will recognize them.

When playing long term (hours), you get to do this to many cards. The more card you have marked off, the better.

But that's if you aren't caught before that happens. In reality, it is very hard for this kind of blackjack cheating to go unnoticed.

Another kind of blackjack cheating is swapping cards. This is typical sleight of hand. if you are a good card trickster or magician, you can try switching the cards you get with cards you already have hidden. Like the previous example, it can get you in big trouble if you are caught.

Card Counting

Card counting is not a kind of blackjack cheating. You are not manipulating the cards in any way. A card counter merely uses a mental strategy to their advantage.

The problem is, casinos dislike card counting even if though it is not blackjack cheating. If you are singled out as a card counter, you could be dismissed or even banned from the house.

That said, card counting is worth trying if you want to win in blackjack. In card counting, you keep track of the "good" cards and "bad" cards (for you, not the dealer). The more bad cards that are dealt, the better for you; it means there are less cards left to be dealt and more good ones. That is basically what card counting is.
