  • Blackjack 101: Playing the Hard Hands

Blackjack is one of the really popular card games around. Part of its fame comes from the fact that blackjack players actually have a chance to reduce house edge when you play the game. That doesn't mean that you just let lady luck work her way in your blackjack game.

Reducing the house advantage in blackjack will require a bit of serious study. That little bit of study means having a working knowledge of basic strategy. No, you don't have to be a Harvard graduate to master blackjack's basic strategy. Part of blackjack's basic strategy is knowing how to play the hard hands.

The blackjack hard hands are any hands that don't have any Aces on them. It's quite likely that you'll play hard hands more since there are only four Aces in a deck of cards. If you know how to play the hard hands right, you'll have a better chance of making some serious cash.

First step is to check your hard hand and the dealer's up card. We'll formulate our blackjack strategy based on what we get from here. That having been said, if your hand totals eight or less, the rule is to hit every single time as long as you start off with this total.

If you now have a nine in your hard hand, then check the dealer's card. If the dealer's card is within cards Three to Six you double down, if not, then you must hit.

Now if you have a ten, check the dealer's hand. If the dealer has three to nine, then you need to double down. If that isn't the case, then hit.

Now if your initial blackjack hand is an eleven, you should double down if the dealer has a cards ranging from two to ten; hit if the blackjack dealer displays an Ace.

If your initial blackjack hand comes up to a twelve things get a bit complicated. If the dealer's up card is either a two or a three you must hit. Now, if the blackjack dealer's card shows from four to six then you should stand. If the dealer's card is above that range, then the best thing to do is to hit.

Now if your initial blackjack hand is within 13 to 16 here's what you ought to do. Remember to stand if the blackjack dealer has an up card from Two to Six. If that isn't the case then you should hit.

If your initial hand is from 17 to 21, there's no other move for you than to stand.

These are the hard hands you'll encounter in blackjack. By knowing how to play the hard hands right you'll have the chance of lower the house advantage and win more cash.
